Guessing why your website isn't ranking is expensive and slow. A thorough SEO audit finds the exact technical issues, content gaps, and authority problems holding your organic traffic back, with a prioritised plan to fix all of them. No filler. No fluff. Just the truth about your site.

Every ranking problem has a root cause. An SEO audit finds it before you invest more in content or links.

Why Sites Rank Poorly Despite Good Content and Links

  • Technical issues silently blocking indexation that no amount of new content will overcome
  • Duplicate content from pagination, parameters, or URL variations splitting ranking authority
  • Canonical tag misconfigurations telling Google to rank the wrong version of a page
  • Core Web Vitals failures suppressing rankings for every page on the site
  • Internal linking structure funnelling authority away from the pages that need it most
  • Missing or incorrectly implemented schema preventing rich results
  • Keyword cannibalisation with multiple pages competing for the same term and winning nothing
Why an Audit First

Before You Invest More in SEO, Find Out Why Your Current Investment Isn't Working.

Most businesses that aren't seeing results from SEO have the same problem: they're investing in content, links, or technical work without knowing which specific issues are actually suppressing their rankings. They're treating symptoms instead of diagnosing the underlying cause. An SEO audit is the diagnosis. It tells you, with specificity and evidence, exactly what is wrong with your site and exactly what needs to happen to fix it.

A thorough SEO audit covers three layers: technical health, content alignment, and authority signals. Technical issues are the foundation and must be resolved first because they can silently negate the impact of every other SEO investment. Content analysis identifies keyword targeting gaps, cannibalisation, and intent mismatches. Authority analysis identifies the link profile gaps and E-E-A-T signals that are preventing your pages from competing in their target keyword categories.

I am Zaid Ali, an independent SEO specialist based in Islamabad. I run a thorough technical SEO audit at the start of every client engagement because it is the only way to know what the real problems are before proposing solutions. An audit I deliver is a working document, not a vanity report: every issue is documented with a severity rating, an impact explanation, and a specific resolution. My full technical SEO service is built on the audit methodology described on this page.

🔎 An Audit Without a Fix Plan Is Not an Audit. It's a Problem List.

Every issue I identify in an audit comes with a specific resolution: the exact change needed, the file or setting it applies to, and the expected impact on rankings after the fix is implemented. You receive a working action plan, not a long document of observations that leaves you no closer to understanding what to do next.

What I Audit

What My SEO Audit Covers

A comprehensive three-layer audit covering every technical, content, and authority factor affecting your organic rankings. Nothing generic. Everything site-specific.

01
🐛Technical Crawl and Indexation Audit
I run a full site crawl using Screaming Frog cross-referenced with Google Search Console coverage data. The crawl identifies every URL on your site and flags: broken internal links (4xx), server errors (5xx), redirect chains and loops, pages blocked by robots.txt or noindex tags that should be indexed, pages that should be excluded but are being crawled, and crawl depth issues that leave important pages under-crawled. Every finding is documented with the exact URL, the issue type, its severity, and the specific fix required.
02
📋Duplicate Content and Canonical Analysis
I identify every source of duplicate or near-duplicate content: URL parameter variations, pagination pages, www versus non-www, HTTP versus HTTPS, trailing slash inconsistencies, category and tag archive pages, and filtered navigation URLs. For each source of duplication, I document the correct canonical strategy and the specific implementation needed. Duplicate content is one of the most common causes of suppressed rankings because it dilutes authority across versions of the same page rather than concentrating it where Google should rank.
03
📈Core Web Vitals and Page Speed Assessment
I assess your Core Web Vitals scores across your key page templates using both PageSpeed Insights lab data and the CrUX field data that feeds directly into Google's ranking decisions. For each template type that fails, I identify the specific resources causing the LCP, CLS, or INP failure: unoptimised images, render-blocking scripts, layout shift-causing elements, or slow server response times. I distinguish between lab score improvements that look good in reports and field data improvements that actually affect rankings.
04
📄Schema and Structured Data Audit
I audit your existing schema implementation against Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema.org specification, identifying: missing schema types relevant to your content, incorrectly implemented schema generating validation errors, schema that is present but failing to produce eligible rich results, and opportunities for additional schema types that would improve your SERP appearance. Every schema issue is documented with the specific correction and the rich result types that correct implementation makes you eligible for.
05
🔗Internal Linking and Site Architecture Analysis
I analyse how authority flows through your site via internal links, identifying: pages with insufficient internal links that are under-ranked relative to their content quality, over-linked pages that are consuming authority that should flow elsewhere, anchor text patterns that may trigger over-optimisation signals, and orphaned pages receiving no internal links and therefore no crawl priority. Site architecture analysis identifies whether your URL structure and navigation support the keyword targeting strategy or work against it.
06
🔍Keyword and On-Page Content Audit
I assess your on-page SEO across your priority pages: title tag optimisation, meta description quality, H1 and heading hierarchy, keyword targeting alignment with actual search intent, content depth relative to competing pages currently ranking for the same terms, and keyword cannibalisation where multiple pages compete for the same target keyword. I identify which pages are closest to ranking for their target terms and which need the most fundamental content rework to become competitive.
07
🏆E-E-A-T and Trust Signals Assessment
I evaluate your site's Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness signals: author credential visibility, About and contact page quality, external citations and mentions, review and testimonial presence, and the specific E-E-A-T gaps that are most likely suppressing your rankings given your industry and content category. For YMYL industries including healthcare, finance, and legal, E-E-A-T assessment is a critical audit component because these signals are a ranking prerequisite, not an enhancement.
08
🔓Backlink Profile Analysis
I analyse your backlink profile using Ahrefs to identify: your current domain authority relative to competing sites ranking for your target keywords, the topical relevance of your existing link profile, toxic or spammy links that may be suppressing your authority signals, the anchor text distribution of your existing links, and the specific authority gap between your site and the pages currently ranking above you. The authority analysis tells you how much link acquisition investment is required to compete at your target keyword difficulty level.
09
🌎International SEO and Hreflang Audit
For sites targeting multiple countries or languages, I audit the hreflang implementation across every language and country version: missing self-referential tags, incorrect locale codes, missing return links from alternate versions, and conflicting canonical configurations that undermine the hreflang signal. Hreflang errors are among the most costly international SEO mistakes because they cause Google to serve the wrong language version to the wrong audience, producing organic traffic losses across every international market simultaneously.
10
📊Competitor Gap Analysis
I analyse the top three to five competitors ranking above you for your primary target keywords to identify: keyword opportunities they are capturing that you are not, content gaps where their depth exceeds yours, backlink sources that contribute to their rankings that you have not pursued, and technical or schema advantages that give them a measurable edge in your keyword category. The competitor gap analysis turns the audit from a pure diagnosis into an opportunity map that tells you exactly where the fastest ranking gains are available.
What You Receive

What the Audit Deliverable Looks Like

Every audit I deliver is a working document built for action, not for impressiveness. Every issue documented. Every fix specified. Every priority explained.

Prioritised Issue Register

Every technical, content, and authority issue found is documented in a prioritised register with its severity rating (critical, high, medium, low), the specific URL or page group affected, the exact impact on your rankings, and the specific fix required. Issues are ordered by impact so your developer's time and your budget go toward the fixes that produce the most improvement first, not toward low-priority checklist items that have minimal ranking effect.

Full Action Plan
📋

Executive Summary

A plain-language summary of the audit's key findings, the three to five highest-priority issues to address first, and an explanation of the expected ranking impact of resolving them. Written for business owners and marketing managers, not just for developers. The executive summary gives you a clear picture of the state of your site's SEO without requiring you to read every technical detail in the full issue register.

Plain Language
📈

Competitor Benchmarking

A comparison of your site's technical health, content depth, and authority profile against the top three to five competitors currently ranking above you for your primary target keywords. This benchmarking contextualises every issue in the audit: a technical problem is more urgent when your competitors have already fixed it than when they share the same issue. It also identifies the specific gaps that need to close to make your site competitive for the rankings you're targeting.

Developer-Ready Fix Specifications

For every technical fix that requires developer implementation, I provide exact specifications: the specific file or configuration to modify, the exact code or setting change needed, and a verification method to confirm the fix is working correctly after deployment. For clients without a developer, I implement fixes directly where access is provided. Nothing in the audit requires a second conversation to understand what needs to happen or how to make it happen.

Implementation Ready
📅

30-Day Priority Fix Roadmap

A sequenced 30-day implementation roadmap that breaks the prioritised issue list into weekly actions, ordered to produce the fastest possible ranking improvements within the first month of implementation. Critical and high-severity technical fixes that directly affect indexation and Core Web Vitals are scheduled in week one. Content and authority improvements are sequenced based on which target keywords are closest to ranking breakthroughs.

Audit Walkthrough Call

Every audit is followed by a walkthrough call where I take you through the key findings, answer questions about specific issues, explain the expected impact of the priority fixes, and discuss how the findings inform the broader SEO strategy going forward. If you are choosing between continuing with SEO independently, hiring internally, or engaging me for an ongoing retainer, the walkthrough gives you everything you need to make that decision with full information about your site's actual situation.

What access do I need to provide?

Read-only access to Google Search Console and Ahrefs view-level access provides the data needed for the full audit. You retain full admin control of your accounts at all times. I do not need CMS or hosting admin access for the audit phase itself. If you choose to engage me for fix implementation after the audit, that access can be shared then. The audit requires nothing that puts your accounts or your site at any risk.

How long does the audit take?

Most audits are delivered within five to seven working days of receiving GSC access. Larger sites with more than 10,000 pages or complex multi-store or multi-language configurations may take seven to ten working days. I give a confirmed delivery date before the audit begins so you know exactly when to expect the document and walkthrough. There are no vague timelines and no surprises about delivery.

What happens after the audit?

After the walkthrough you have three options: implement the fixes yourself using the developer-ready specifications in the audit document, pass the document to your existing developer or agency to implement, or engage me for ongoing technical SEO and content work to implement and build on the findings. There is no obligation to continue. The audit is a standalone deliverable. Many clients use the audit to evaluate other agencies and specialists, which I am entirely comfortable with.

Track Record

What Implementing an Audit's Findings Produces

The results below came from sites where a thorough technical audit was completed first and its findings were implemented before content or link building work began. In every case, the audit identified specific, fixable technical issues that were silently suppressing the site's ability to rank regardless of the content and links already present.

An audit's value is not in the document itself. It's in what happens after the findings are implemented. The sites in these results improved not because the audit was good but because the problems it found were real, the fixes were specific, and the implementation happened correctly. That chain of events is what I build every audit to enable.

Is This Right for You?

Who Gets the Most Value From an SEO Audit

An SEO audit is the right starting point in some situations and not the most valuable investment in others. I'm direct about which is which.

✅ Great fit if you...

  • Have a website that isn't ranking despite having some content and links in place and want to know why
  • Have seen an unexplained organic traffic drop and need to diagnose the cause before taking further action
  • Are about to invest in a new SEO strategy or agency and want an independent assessment of your site's current state first
  • Are planning or have recently completed a site migration, redesign, or platform change
  • Want a developer-ready document that tells your team exactly what to fix and in what order
  • Need a second opinion on why your current SEO work is not producing the results you were promised

❌ Not a great fit if you...

  • Have a brand new site with almost no content and want to know why you're not ranking yet
  • Are not willing to act on any of the findings the audit produces
  • Want a generic automated report from a SaaS tool with no human analysis or prioritisation
  • Expect the audit itself to improve your rankings without implementing any of its findings
  • Are looking for the cheapest possible option and do not mind a superficial output
  • Have a 3-page brochure site with no SEO goals beyond ranking for your own business name

Why Commission an Audit From Me?

What a specialist-led audit delivers that an automated tool or a generic agency report does not.

01

Every Finding Is Prioritised by Actual Ranking Impact

Automated SEO audit tools produce hundreds of issues without distinguishing between a missing alt text on one image and a canonical misconfiguration that is diluting the authority of your entire product catalogue. I prioritise every finding by its actual impact on your organic traffic: the issues that are directly blocking indexation or causing significant ranking suppression are marked critical and addressed first, regardless of how many lower-severity items appear in the same document. The structure of the audit is designed to make it obvious what to do first, second, and third.

02

The Audit Is a Working Document, Not a Report

Many SEO audits are produced to look thorough and justify an agency's retainer rather than to actually enable implementation. They're long on observations and short on specifics. Every issue in my audit includes the URL or template affected, the exact fix required, the expected impact after the fix is implemented, and the verification step to confirm the fix is working correctly. A developer can take the document and begin implementing without ever speaking to me. That is the standard I hold every audit to.

03

The Audit Applies to Your Specific Platform and Situation

A Shopify store has different technical SEO challenges from a WordPress site, which has different challenges from a Magento store or a headless PWA. The issues I flag, the severity ratings I assign, and the fixes I recommend are all specific to your platform, your site structure, and your competitive situation. I do not apply a generic template audit to every site and change the brand name at the top. The analysis is specific to what is actually present on your site and how Google is actually crawling and indexing it.

04

I Run This Audit on Every Client I Work With

The audit I offer as a standalone service is the same audit I run at the start of every ongoing SEO engagement. It is not a simplified version produced as a sales tool or a lead magnet. The methodology is the same, the tools are the same, and the deliverable format is the same. If you commission a standalone audit and later decide to engage me for ongoing SEO work, the audit becomes the foundation of that engagement rather than something that needs to be redone. The investment in the audit applies directly to whatever comes next.

SEO Audit Pricing

Priced Per Site After Scoping

Audit pricing depends on site size, platform complexity, number of languages or store views, and the depth of competitor analysis required. A 50-page service business website is a different scope from a 50,000-product Magento store with multi-store configuration. I scope the audit in a free 15-minute consultation and confirm the price in writing before any work begins. No surprises and no padding the scope to inflate the fee.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you would want answered before commissioning an audit. Something missing? Ask me directly.

Automated tools like Semrush's Site Audit, Ahrefs' Site Audit, and Screaming Frog generate lists of detected issues without contextual judgment. They cannot distinguish between a minor image alt text gap and a canonical misconfiguration that is silently destroying your domain authority. They flag every issue with the same weight regardless of its actual ranking impact. I use these same tools as data sources, but the analysis, prioritisation, and resolution specifics are applied by a specialist who understands which issues are causing your specific ranking problems and which are cosmetic.
The audit is a standalone deliverable. You receive the full issue register, fix specifications, and walkthrough regardless of whether you engage me for implementation. For clients who want me to implement the findings, I offer an ongoing technical SEO engagement where the audit becomes month one's work and implementation proceeds from month two onwards. For clients who want to implement independently or through their own developer, the developer-ready specifications in the audit document provide everything needed to implement without requiring any further input from me.
An SEO audit using Screaming Frog cross-referenced with Google Search Console data finds the actual state of your site as Google sees it, not as your CMS or front-end presents it. The combination of a full site crawl, GSC coverage and performance data, and manual analysis of the specific pages that should be ranking but aren't is how the actual problems get found rather than the cosmetic ones. I also analyse the competitors ranking above you for your target keywords to understand what specific advantages they have that you don't, which contextualises every finding in terms of what it would take to close the gap.
I audit all major CMS and e-commerce platforms: WordPress, Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, Webflow, custom-built sites, headless PWA implementations, and multi-store configurations. Platform-specific issues are a significant part of the audit for e-commerce sites in particular, since Shopify, Magento, and WooCommerce each produce their own characteristic technical SEO problems that generic audit methodologies don't account for. The audit methodology is adapted to your specific platform's architecture rather than applying a one-size-fits-all template.
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people commission a standalone audit from me. If you received an audit from an agency, implemented what they recommended, and still didn't see ranking improvements, a second opinion audit examines whether the original audit missed significant issues, recommended incorrect fixes that didn't address the actual problems, or identified real issues that were implemented incorrectly. I assess the current state of your site objectively, without reference to what previous audits said, and document what is actually present now.
Yes, if the site is underperforming despite having content that should be ranking. Small sites often have the same technical issues as large sites: canonical misconfigurations, missing schema, poor on-page optimisation, and E-E-A-T gaps, just affecting fewer URLs. The audit for a small site is faster to complete and lower cost to commission, but the issues it finds can be just as significant for ranking performance as the issues found on a site with thousands of pages. A 10-page service business website with a canonical error affecting its core service pages has a critical SEO problem regardless of its size.
The speed of ranking improvements after implementing audit findings depends on what the findings were. Fixes that resolve critical indexation issues (incorrectly excluded pages, canonical errors, noindex tags on important content) typically produce visible improvements in Google Search Console within two to four weeks of correct implementation. Core Web Vitals improvements show in PageSpeed Insights immediately and in GSC field data within four to six weeks. Ranking improvements from content and authority fixes take three to six months as Google re-evaluates the improved pages against their competition.
Yes, and a pre-migration audit is one of the most valuable investments you can make before a site migration. It establishes a baseline of your current technical state and rankings, identifies which current issues should be resolved before the migration rather than carried forward, and produces a redirect mapping framework for your most important URLs. Post-migration, a follow-up audit confirms the migration preserved rankings and identifies any new issues introduced by the new platform or configuration. Migrations without pre-migration audits are a leading cause of preventable organic traffic losses that can take months to recover from.
